County Recycling Depot To Host Tire Recycling Event

Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District will host a tire recycling event in April.
During a Tuesday meeting, the board approved hosting a two-week event from April 14 to 25.
KCSWMD Executive Director Tom Ganser said a maximum of four tires could be recycled per family per day. The event would continue until April 25, or until a collection trailer at the recycling depot is full.
"That'll prevent us from having trailers coming in with 25 or 30 tires, but still give them the ability to come in over a few days and not overwhelm the staff," said Ganser.
Ganser told the board he's already been in contact with the Kosciusko County Work Release Center about having one or two participants assist during the event.
The board also discussed possibly hosting another similar event in the fall, depending on the April event's success.
In other business, Ganser said the district is having difficulty finding a person to fill the education outreach and marketing coordinator position. He said most of the candidates have the marketing experience, but not education. Ganser told the board he'd like to focus on finding a candidate with a background in education.
The board suggested Ganser contact area schools to see about the possibility of a student intern handling the social media aspect of KCSWMD.
The board's next meeting is at 11 a.m. April 22.
