According to the probable cause affidavit, on Jan. 22 a Warsaw Police Department detective received a loss prevention report from a WPD officer regarding a theft from a store.
A store employee believed a man, later identified as Arita-Rosa, was involved in a theft from the store on Jan. 13 and another store employee, later identified as Bradley, assisted Arita-Rosa.
The detective talked with the store employee who learned Arita-Rosa and Bradley were involved in multiple thefts from the store between Nov. 26 and Jan. 13. Arita-Rosa checked out at Bradley’s register for each purchase and Bradley did not scan all the items or scanned a cheaper item. Arita-Rosa then exited the store.
The employee provided the detective with surveillance videos, still photographs and/or store receipts/documents for several incidents. On Nov. 26, Arita-Rosa allegedly walked past all points of sale with a 10-pound bag of grout and a 50-pound bag of tile mortar for a total of $44.96. On the same day, Arita-Rosa passed all points of sale and did not pay for a tub surround valued at $274.
On Dec. 2, Arita-Rosa checked out at Bradley’s register and the employee determined Arita-Rosa did not pay for 192 pieces of vinyl siding and an interior door valued at $2,062.12.
On Dec. 12, the employee determined Arita-Rosa did not pay for four pieces of aluminum facia and lumber for a total value of $172.36.
On Dec. 13, a receipt from a purchase Arita-Rosa made reflected the sale of a food item, but the employee determined Arita-Rosa walked past points of sale with a backpack leaf blower valued at $589.
On Dec. 20, Arita-Rosa is accused of not paying for two doors with a total value of $314.
On Jan. 6, Arita-Rosa is accused of stealing 30 boxes of flooring for a total cost of $1,685.10. On Jan. 7, he is accused of not paying for lumber, drywall compound, drywall tape and sheets of drywall for a total cost of $197.86. On Jan. 13, Arita-Rosa exited the store without paying for 12 boxes of 40-inch LVP flooring and 18 boxes of 60-inch LVP flooring, for a total value of $1,852.62.
On Feb. 19, the detective read Bradley her Miranda rights. She admitted she assisted Arita-Rosa to place orders for products. She said Arita-Rosa paid her a total of $500 over a few months. Bradley said Arita-Rosa placed $200 in Bradley’s vehicle in the parking lot on Jan. 3 and $300 on a separate occasion.
Bradley said the arrangement between her and Arita-Rosa was made a few months prior by another man who worked for Arita-Rosa. The agreement was if Bradley provided Arita-Rosa with a “deal” on products, then Arita-Rosa would take care of her. Bradley said she did not scan all the products Arita-Rose took out of the store.
