Former Leesburg Resident Retires From Federal Law Enforcement

After 20 years, Mark McCleese, pictured with Chief Judge Tanya Walton-Pratt, retired from the United States Probation Office on Jan. 31, 2025. McCleese was a federal probation officer in the Southern District of Indiana. During his career, McCleese was the lead safety instructor, Top Gun award winner for being highest marksman in the district, and a senior officer. Additionally, in 2005, he won the Thomas E. Gahl Goodwill Award. This award is given to officers who demonstrates positive traits and recognizes Gahl, the first federal probation officer killed in the line of duty in 1986. Previously, McCleese worked for nearly a decade at the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. He completed his Bachelor of Science from Ball State University and Master of Public Affairs at Indiana University. His parents, Marvin and Shirley McCleese, continue to live in Leesburg.
