Doris Elaine Alderfer

Doris Elaine Fawley Alderfer, 82, of the Argos community, passed away Jan. 14, 2025, at 10:08 a.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver.
On June 4, 1942, in Warsaw, Doris was born to Kenneth Franklin Fawley and Mary Alice Phillips Fawley. She lived in the Argos community since 1962, moving here from Warsaw.
On July 15, 1962, in Warsaw, Doris married Russell Lee Alderfer and for nearly 63 years they shared the joys, worries, tenderness and companionship of their married life.
Doris worked for First National Bank in the bookkeeping department, Warsaw; she was a cook for Argos Day Care, and was the clerk for the Argos town court; her last job was with Dr. Plumlee’s as a receptionist.
Doris was a graduate of Warsaw High School with the class of 1960. Doris loved her family and really enjoyed every minute she spent with all of them. She enjoyed listening and sometimes singing along to religious and county music. Doris was an avid reader of many books and her Bible.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Lee Alderfer, of Argos; daughters: Sonia Williams and husband David, of Bourbon; Tina Zechiel and husband Dean, of Argos; and Dana King and husband Craig, of Kouts; six grandchildren: Mackenzie Williams and wife Jaclyn, of Westfield; Alexandra Zechiel, of Culver; Katelynn Miller and husband Zachary, of Logansport; Kurtis Zechiel and wife Mallori, of Argos; Madeline Hill and husband Jared, of Markleville; and Jackson King, of Kouts; six great-grandchildren: Olsen, Lilah, Ada, Caroline, Finleigh, McCoy and another to arrive soon; sister, Janet Rowe, of Argos; brother, Max Fawley and wife Lucy, of Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Norma and Phyllis; and husband, George McCay.
The family would like to thank the staff at Miller’s and Traditions Hospice for the compassionate care given to Doris at her time there.
Friends may visit with the family Sunday, Jan. 19 from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos. Services will be held on Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Chaplin Bob Puhr. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos.
