PIERCETON — A new deputy marshal for the town of Pierceton was sworn in during a Pierceton Town Council meeting on Monday.
Alex Morrison was sworn in as the deputy marshal by town attorney Tammy Keirn after the position became vacant following Ashley Jones' resignation.
Council also announced Town Marshal Jim Bumbaugh would be the town's newest recreation board member following the resignation of Cindy Kreger.
In other business, council heard about concerns related to snow plowing and Christmas lights.
Council President Glenn Hall said the town received several calls about slick streets during the snow event on Jan. 10 and 11. He asked Town Superintendent Casey Boggs what his rule of thumb was for when employees begin plowing the streets.
Boggs said a lot of variables went into determining that.
"Let's say we're expecting to get 2 to 3 inches (of snow)," said Boggs. "And we know it's going to cut off at a good point of say that 2-1/2 to 3 inches. We'll probably wait so we can clear it all the way off. At the time with one of the concerns, there was a half inch of snow on the street that we had a complaint about. We don't go out and start plowing with half an inch of snow."
Boggs said the town also uses sand to help address slick spots on the road.
Resident Susan Mort commended the employees for their plowing efforts, saying the employees were out at 5 a.m. on Jan. 11 taking care of the roads.
Stephanie Campbell, with the town's Christmas committee, also brought up issues with Christmas lights staying on during the 2024 season. Council wondered if the town's outdoor outlets needed to be looked at and questioned the outlets' age factoring into the lighting issues.
Councilman Matt Brubaker said there will be a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 in the Pierceton Community Building for anyone interested in joining the Pierceton Days Committee.
Pierceton Council's next regular meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10.
