John Bounchanh Sena, of Warsaw, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, at Parkview Kosciusko Hospital at the age of 77.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1947, in the Village of Ban Pong Phonthong District, Laos, to parents Deng and Soi Sena.
John's life was characterized by kindness, resilience and dedication. He graduated from Sisavong University College of Education (Ecole Supérieure de pédagogie) at Dongdoke, Vientiane, Laos, and worked for the government as an English teacher in Laos. In October of 1978, John and his family escaped to Thailand as a refugee and later arrived in Leesburg on Feb. 21, 1980. By the spiritual faith, love and support from Camp Creek Church and the Flory family, he made the most of his new beginnings. He worked in several factories within Kosciusko County including Maple Leaf Farms, Indiana Coated Fabric, Owens Illinois and Zimmer Biomet, tirelessly and always committed to providing for his family.
John is remembered not just for his accomplishments but also for his compassionate spirit. He was proud of teaching English to fellow refugees and helping them gain citizenship — a testament to his dedication to community service and uplifting those around him. In his free time, John enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family.
John was a devoted family man. He married the love of his life, Ann, on Feb. 23, 1975. Together, they built a family that would reminisce about his unwavering support and love. John leaves her behind and his two sons, Edward (Sarah) Sena and David (Tricia) Sena. As a grandfather, he took immense joy in the lives of his grandchildren: Ally, Noah, Claire, Bennett, Lauren and Elizabeth. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, including Vieng, Som, Kayla, Justin, Layna, Logan and Lucas.
Titus Funeral Home is entrusted with the care of John. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1 from 1 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home, 2000 Sheridan St., Warsaw. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 2 at Camp Creek Church, 7486 Ind. 19, Etna Green, at 12:30 p.m. with the doors opening at noon.
