WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Town Council approved the vacation of a right-of-way adjacent to the southwest corner of Oakwood Avenue and Union Drive Tuesday.
During a public hearing, Brian Hodorek said there is a piece of land about 100 feet long and about 20 feet wide on the Oakwood side of his current property. He said including the right-of-way, there’s about 30 feet between his property line and the concrete adjacent to his property line. For reference, Hodorek said other parts of his property did come closer to the concrete with 6 or 7 feet between the property line and the concrete.
Hodorek said the reason for the petition was the road at that corner does come very close to his house and he does get a lot of headlights when cars are coming down Oakwood Avenue. He plans on putting some trees in the area to block the lights.
There were no remonstrators.
The council approved the petition unanimously.
In other business, the council:
• Approved for the Winona Lake Police Department to purchase a Dodge Durango at $44,249.20.
• Learned the tornado siren has been installed in town and a day to test the siren is being worked on.
• Approved a cell phone policy that allows a $30 stipend per month for town employees.
• Heard the last day for the ice rink at the Miller Sunset Pavilion is March 1.
• Heard Winona Happenings include Wine About Winter in the Village 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday; the Boundless Ministry Winter Community Hike is at 6 p.m. Saturday; and the free community breakfast at Limitless Park is 7 to 10 a.m. March 6.

Pro-Trump, Anti-AP
Editor, Times-Union: I see where the Trump administration has kicked AP (associated propaganda) out of the White House and all government agencies news briefings. I know that the Times-Union gets most of their world news from AP, so I would assume the Times-Union won't be reporting AP stories anymore that are actual news but just AP opinion pieces. Which is what we actually get anyway.
