Helser Announces Candidacy For Republican Party Vice Chairwoman
February 12, 2025 at 4:44 p.m.

Rhonda Helser on Wednesday announced her candidacy for vice chairwoman of the Kosciusko County Republican Party.
In her announcement, she said, “I have been actively involved in our party for several years, advocating for conservative values. I plan to enhance voter outreach and ensure that our party stands strong and united. As vice chairwoman, I will be dedicated to listening to all concerns and work to represent the interests of our constituents effectively.”
Helser resigned as county auditor in 2024, effective Aug. 31, citing personal reasons. A caucus elected Alyssa Schmucker as her replacement.
Helser had served the county for over 20 years, including part-time employment. She worked in the treasurer’s office under two prior treasurers, worked for a short period in the auditor’s office and then returned to the treasurer’s office.
She ran for treasurer in 2016 and was elected to fill the position and elected as treasurer again in 2020.
She won the election in 2022 to become auditor, taking office in January 2023. As she could not hold two elected positions at the same time, she resigned as treasurer effective Dec. 31, 2022. Auditor Michelle Puckett won the caucus to take over as treasurer.
Helser received the 2021 Woman of the Year Award from the Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee during the Republican Hall of Fame dinner from Chairman Mike Ragan, who announced he will be seeking re-election this year as chairman.
She is a life member of the NRA, served as Warsaw Friends of the NRA club treasurer, competitive SASS shooter, 4-H shooting sports volunteer, along with helping support the Republican Women’s Club as president in 2016-17 and then as club secretary from 2020 to present, according to a biography she provided in 2021 to announce her candidacy for auditor then.
Countywide Republican precinct and vice precinct committeemen will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1 to select a central committee for the next four years.
The current central committee includes Ragan, chair; Kristi Ormsby, vice chair; C. Austin Rovenstine, secretary; and Steve Foster, treasurer.
