Slate EV Coming

Editor, Times-Union:
Something special is happening in Warsaw.
Slate Electric Vehicles has announced plans to bring new life to the old LSC Communications building — a facility that once printed millions of Sears catalogs for homes across America. There’s a kind of poetic irony here: a building that once helped connect people to the future is about to do it all over again, only now through electric vehicles instead of printed pages.
For too long, Warsaw’s economy has been almost singularly focused on orthopedics. It’s made us world-famous, and rightly so. But if we want to keep growing, keep innovating, and keep offering opportunities to future generations, we need to diversify.
That’s why I believe Slate’s arrival is not just good news — it’s an important step forward. Yes, it’s a gamble. Every big idea is. But it’s a smart gamble, one that builds on what Warsaw already does best: manufacturing excellence, engineering talent, and a spirit of craftsmanship that’s hard to match anywhere else.
Slate’s investment shows that Warsaw isn’t just the Orthopedic Capital of the World — we are a community capable of building the future, no matter what form it takes.
Welcome to Warsaw, Slate. We’re ready for what comes next.
Sincerely,
Chris Plack
