Pedestrian Killed In Saturday Morning Accident

A pedestrian walking in a travel lane of U.S. 30 was killed early Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle.
The accident occurred at 12:06 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of U.S. 30 and Parker Street, Warsaw, according to a news release from the Warsaw Police Department.
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 30 and Parker Street for a reported crash involving a pedestrian, the release states. The initial investigation indicates that a 2012 Dodge Journey, operated by McCoy Lucas, 30, Fort Wayne, was traveling in the right-hand eastbound lane of U.S. 30, east of the intersection. Lucas saw a pedestrian, later identified as Hector Hinojosa Jr., 54, Warsaw, walking in the travel lane. Lucas informed officers that he attempted to avoid collision with Hinojosa but was unable to.
Hinojosa was hit, causing significant injuries. Lutheran EMS transported Hinojosa to a Fort Wayne hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Fatal Team was requested for a crash reconstruction and the investigation remains ongoing.
Responding agencies including the Warsaw Police Department, Winona Lake Police Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Lutheran EMS and the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory.
No further information was provided.
