It is spring cleaning time and the perfect opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted prescription medications.
The Drug Enforcement Administration sponsors nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back initiatives. The Take Back on Saturday seeks to prevent prescription drug misuse and theft through proper disposal of unwanted prescription medication, according to a news release from Kosciusko Coalition on Drug Education (KCODE).
The drug overdose epidemic in Kosciusko County and throughout the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and security threat, the release states. DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects the commitment of community leaders to the safety and health of residents, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.
Community leaders are committed to making communities safer and healthier, and this can be done by reducing overdoses and overdose deaths.
Prescription drug drop-off boxes are permanently placed in locations throughout Kosciusko County. Area residents are encouraged to safely dispose of prescription medications during the Prescription Drug Take Back and throughout the year. KCODE manages the Kosciusko County Prescription Drug Drop-Off Box initiative in partnership with 525 Foundation, Claypool Police Department, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Mentone Police Department, Milford Police Department, Pierceton Police Department, Silver Lake Police Department, Syracuse Police Department, Warsaw Police Department, and Winona Lake Police Department.
