Indiana State Police Participate In 27th Annual Prescription Drug Take Back

By Staff Report

BREMEN DISTRICT - Dispose of unwanted, expired or unused prescription drugs on Saturday, April 26.
The Indiana State Police (ISP) is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for their 27th “Prescription Drug Take Back” initiative. The “Take Back” initiative seeks to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft through proper disposal of unwanted prescription drugs.
Collection sites will be set up nationwide for expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs, which will be properly disposed of without threat to the environment. This program is for pill and liquid medications. Needles or sharps of any kind will not be accepted for disposal. This service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue, according to a news release from the ISP. Expired and unwanted medicines that are left in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses from these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines — flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the sink or trash — pose both potential safety and health hazards.
Unwanted medications may be dropped off at any ISP Post, except for the Toll Road Post.
The Indiana State Police Bremen Post will host their collection site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26. The Bremen Post is located at 1425 Miami Trail, Bremen.
Needles or sharps will not be accepted for disposal. Help keep officers safe by ensuring no needles or sharps are included in your contents at drop-off.
