Susan Scott Landwerlen

April 15, 2025 at 5:23 p.m.

Susan Scott Landwerlen, 81, of rural Mentone, Indiana, passed unexpectedly on Monday, April 14, 2025, at her residence.
Susie was born on Sept. 11, 1943, in Boston, Mass., to Curtis and Elinor Upton Scott. Susie wasn’t scared of anything, not hard work, not tough times, not pain, not even giving birth to her youngest son on a dairy farm.
She grew up in New England with her big brother before moving to Indiana during high school, where she met Jerry, the love of her life. She was married on Aug. 17, 1963, in Shelby County, Indiana, to Jerry R. Landwerlen; he preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2016. Together they raised four sons. Over the years, they built a dairy farm, ran a dental practice, an antique store and even found success making vintage-style mannequin displays. That was Susie - curious, determined and always up for something unexpected.
She loved animals like family, sometimes more, and didn’t think twice about digging up and relocating beloved pets when they moved. She could, and absolutely would, talk to anyone about anything. When she lived in a small town, the local businesses came to expect her daily visits - swapping stories, catching up, and slipping in a dirty joke or two.
Susie was practical, loyal and tough as nails. She worked hard, loved hard, and never held anything back. If you were one of hers - family, friend or stray animal - she had your back for life.
She passed away peacefully and unafraid at home, just as he lived: full of grit, heart and completely herself. She told it like it was, lived like she wanted, and left on her own terms.
She is survived by her sons: Thad and wife Melissa Landwerlen, of Holly, Mich.; Thane and wife Melissa Landwerlen of Warsaw, Ind.; Ty Landwerlen and Gabriela, of Warsaw; and Taber Landwerlen and Emily, of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Hannah, Taren, Graham, Tevin, Avery and Wilson; brother, Langdon “Dussie” Scott, of Florida; and her dog Hannah.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dr. Jerry Landwerlen.
Following her wishes, no services will be held at this time.
The arrangements have been entrusted to King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone.
Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko, 3489 E. 100 S, Pierceton, IN 46562.
