NORTH WEBSTER – Divas Dreams Events will hold a paddle auction to help pay for funeral expenses for a local woman.
The paddle auction will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St., North Webster.
Divas Dreams Events owner Denise Tankersley said during the auction, vendors will put together about 120 baskets for people to bid on. Money raised from every fourth basket will go towards the fundraiser.
So far, vendors include Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Tupperware and crafters who do one-of-a-kind crafts, she said, noting she is still looking for more vendors. Crafters include Family Crafts, who do embroidery, crocheted items and framed art; and Papa’s Woodworking, who does coasters, American flags and anything wooden.
For the first hour of the event, people will be able to shop from displays vendors will have up for the entire event.
If anyone wants to be a vendor at the event, they can contact Tankersley at 574-903-3836 or [email protected].
Tankersley said she’s been doing paddle auctions for 28 years and tries to do one every three months for various fundraisers. She’s helped over 100 families and donated thousands of dollars.
The money raised during Saturday’s auction will go toward paying funeral expenses for Tina McGuire, who died March 17.
Tankersley described McGuire as a pillar of the community with everyone knowing her.
“Tina was an amazing woman,” she said. McGuire owned and worked for various restaurants and owned a couple stores in the area.
“She has been around in the area for a while. And she was just a light. I mean, every time she walked into the room, you knew she was there because she was a very a fun person, a very giddy person, very fun person, a very active person,” she said. So when McGuire died, it “shocked us all,” Tankersley stated.
Tickets for Saturday’s events are $5 and paddles are $1 each. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling Tankersley. She also noted donations of baskets, products or money can be given by calling her or going to the Divas Dreams Events Facebook page.
