Warsaw Community Public Library is now offering state park passes for its patrons.
WCPL Director Heather Barron spoke about the Adult Department's dedication in getting people outdoors this summer to the WCPL Board of Trustees at its meeting Monday.
Making up the department are librarians Erica Bennington, Jama Weaver, Kendra Thompson and Noni Voth, who helped initiate the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Adventure Backpack Program by adding it to the ever growing “Library of Things" at WCPL.
Bennington explained the librarians were excited to give back and help patrons seeking to get outdoors more or “give (the patrons) an experience that maybe they wouldn’t be able to afford, because, they couldn’t afford the pass or parking, or whatever, (the library) can take one burden off their plate.”

The Adventure Backpacks come in two date rotation rages, three days and seven days, with items like maps and compasses to help assist in the elements.
SB 1, Renovations
Barron then discussed Indiana Senate Bill 1 and its potential to dismantle programs throughout WCPL. She also spoke about the trickle-down effect to the interlibrary loan system and its programs after the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services funding has been impacted.
She talked about a feasibility study for WCPL connected to renovation plans, stating information was presented to the Kosciusko County Council and Commissioners.
Business for the meeting also brought out the 40-year celebration of Business Manager Renee Sweeny and the announcement of a new book on the StoryWalk along Beyer Farm Trail titled “Sheep Dog and Sheep Sheep.”
The WCPL Board of Trustees meets at 4 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, and the next meeting will be on May 12.
