BREMEN - Three Amish children were killed Wednesday morning when the buggy they were going to school in was hit by a car.
According to a Marshall County Sheriff’s Office news release, the accident occurred at about 8:01 a.m. Wednesday on Fir Road, near the intersection with 4th Road, south of Bremen.
The preliminary investigation states a 2016 Mercedes Benz GLA - driven by a 17-year-old female - was traveling south on Fir Road when it rear-ended a small horse-drawn cart being pulled by a single horse. All three of the children riding on the cart were ejected.
Marshall County Coroner Dean Byers identified the accident victims as Glenda Jo Yoder, 13; Darrell Wayne Yoder, 10; and Devon Lee Yoder, 9, all of Bremen. He said their parents are Inez Mae and Kevin Wayne Yoder, Bremen.
The three children were pronounced dead at the scene, Byers stated.
The driver of the car was not injured.
The accident remains under investigation.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Bremen Police Department, Indiana State Police, Bremen Fire Department, Tri-County EMS, Marshall County Coroner’s Office and the Marshall County Highway Department.
Byers said Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home was handling arrangements for the children.
