William "Bill" D. Huffer, born on April 4, 1940, in Warsaw, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, at Miller's Merry Manor of Warsaw.
He was born to Morton and Gladys Minear Huffer on April 4, 1940. Bill's life was one marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep sense of community. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1958 and earned his bachelor's degree from the Indiana University School of Business in 1963.
Bill began his professional journey with Sears Roebuck in New Castle, where he underwent management training for two and a half years. He returned to Warsaw to work alongside his father, Morton Huffer; and his brothers, Bob, Max and Ed, at Huffer Foundry until its closure in 1968. Subsequently, Bill secured a position at ABC Industries, working there for an impressive 37 years before retiring as the sales manager in 2005. Notably, he spoke fondly of his experiences, mentioning the 97 times he ventured underground to sell products to mining companies across the United States and internationally.
In 1961, Bill married Patricia "Pat" Mulcahy, with whom he raised four sons. The couple's life together was filled with love and dedication until Pat's untimely passing in 1989. Bill found love again in 1994 when he married Carol Hartman. The couple settled on the east side of Hoffman Lake in Atwood in 1997, and both remained active members of their community.
Bill devoted much of his retirement to serving others. He generously volunteered his time and gas by driving the Amish community to medical appointments and regularly visiting Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, as well as the hospitals in Fort Wayne. As a longstanding member and past president of the Atwood Lions Club, Bill exemplified commitment to his community. He also shared in the camaraderie and traditions of Elks Lodge 802 in Warsaw. Bill participated thru each office of the club including Exalted Ruler. He was awarded Officer of the Year in 2012, served as Chairman of the Elks annual Memorial Service for over 30 years, and enjoyed helping with bingo. He also served as a board of directors for the Kosciusko County Education Foundation.
His passion for history led him to become a tour guide at the Old Jail Museum of the Kosciusko County Historical Society, where he enjoyed sharing local history with visitors. Bill and Carol were active members of the Warsaw Community Church, later attending Plymouth Community Church, where they participated in various outreach activities, including bell ringing for the Salvation Army during the holiday season.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Huffer, of Hoffman Lake; his children: Matt (Deanna) Huffer, of Fishers; Scott (Lori) Huffer, of Hartsville, S.C.; Chris (Melissa) Huffer, of Elkhart; and Chad (Dana) Huffer, of Fishers; as well as his stepchildren, Tony Hartman, of Warsaw; and Bill (Melisa) Hartman, of Chapman Lake. He will be deeply missed by his 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his siblings, Ed (Susie) Huffer, of Warsaw; Janet Cassidy, of New Castle; along with several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia; his parents, Morton and Gladys Huffer; and his brothers, Robert Huffer and Max Huffer; along with brother-in-law, Michael Cassidy. His departure leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, community service and devotion to family will continue to inspire those he touched.
Arrangements are entrusted to Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2000 Sheridan St., Warsaw. Bill's Life Celebration visitation will be held on Friday, April 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A second visitation will take place on Saturday, April 19 one hour before the funeral, which begins at 11 a.m. Pastors Jeff Pfeiffer and David Banning will officiate, with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Donations may be given to the Atwood Otterbein Church for their food pantry.
