SYRACUSE, IN (April 2, 2025) — Wawasee Community Schools  has announced Joe Luce as the new head coach of the Wawasee  High School varsity  boys basketball  program, pending board approval at the April 15th  school board meeting. With more than 30 years of coaching experience and 392 career wins, Coach Luce brings a legacy of success  and a deep belief in the power of relationships—both  on and off the court.
Having led some of Indiana’s most storied basketball programs—including Jeffersonville, Richmond, Marion and Tippecanoe Valley High School—Coach Luce is known not just for winning seasons, but for building trust, loyalty, and pride among his players and communities.
“I feel like Wawasee has the support from its community and its administration,” said Coach Luce. “I pride myself on being a coach that creates trust, pride, and loyalty amongst a team—and that’s what makes a great program. When you combine that with a supportive community and a hungry athletic program, you create a legacy kids want to be part of.”
Coach Luce’s approach reflects the very heart of The Wawasee Experience—where connection, belonging, and growth shape every student’s journey. Superintendent Dr. Steve Troyer emphasized that this hire represents more than a coaching change; it’s an investment in the culture Wawasee is intentionally building.
“Coach Luce brings a passion for mentorship, a commitment to excellence, and a deep understanding of how strong relationships lead to strong outcomes,” said Dr. Troyer. “This is a great day for Warrior basketball and our community.”
Superintendent Troyer, Principal Geoff Walmer, and Athletic Director Brent Doty have shared a clear vision for Warrior Athletics—one rooted in pride, purpose, and unity—and Coach Luce is excited to help bring it to life.
“Wawasee is entering a new era, and I am really excited to be part of this,” Luce said. “I want to be the coach that these kids build their basketball careers with—and invite to their weddings. That’s what hometown athletics is about. Filling the gym, supporting one another, winning on Friday nights.”
Luce added, “Let’s give our kids a true Wawasee Experience—one that makes them want to come
home and raise their families here.”
