GOSHEN – A Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) – Family Medicine office is now welcoming patients of all ages at 1111 Lighthouse Ln., Goshen, with Tamara Kermani, DO, caring for area residents’ primary care needs.
Kermani’s office is located in the same building as the current PPG – OB/GYN office.
“We are pleased to be able to increase access to quality primary care in the area with the opening of our new PPG – Family Medicine office in Goshen,” said Scott Gabriel, market president, Parkview Health Northwest. “Patients can be confident knowing they’re able to see a provider with Dr. Kermani’s excellent experience close to home. From preventive care to diagnosis and chronic disease management, she will strive to guide individuals and families no matter where they are in their health journey.”
Kermani previously served patients in the Syracuse/Milford area for nine years, providing full-time preventive care – as well as walk-in urgent care and complex care management – in an outpatient setting. During several years, she simultaneously managed two family medicine clinics. She also participated in training and instruction of numerous medical students and advanced practice providers over the years.
Kermani completed her family medicine residency through the Kingman Regional Medical Center Residency Program in Kingman, Ariz. She received her medical degree (Doctor of Osteopathy) from Western University of Health Sciences College of Medicine of The Pacific in Pomona, Calif.
Kermani pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, majoring in cultural anthropology and graduating with high honors.
She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association.
Kermani says her years of experience with patients from newborn to older adult have honed her diagnostic skills and given her an appreciation for the variety of family medicine. She is particularly passionate about working with senior patients and those who are considered medically complex due to multiple serious health conditions. With special interests in cardiology, hematology, oncology and gastrointestinal medicine, she strives to provide the most comprehensive treatment possible for her patients prior to referring to specialists.
Kermani also performs joint injections for pain relief and minor skin procedures on an outpatient basis. Committed to preventive care, she emphasizes the importance of yearly wellness exams and taking advantage of routine screening tests, a message she hopes will influence not only patients, but also their family members.
“I really enjoy caring for my patients and their extended families and getting to know them all as individuals,” Kermani said. “During my career, I’ve treated large, extended families from great-great-great grandparents to great-great-great-grandchildren, which has been so rewarding. The meaningful connections that develop with them over time help to strengthen mutual trust and our collaboration on all facets of their health.”
Doctor-patient communication helps foster that trust, Kermani notes. Each patient should be able to tell their own story since, “No one knows their body better than they do.”
Kermani recently remarried, and away from the office, she enjoys traveling and cooking with new husband, Hadi. The couple are looking to adopt a canine friend for their cat, Casper. They are also working on home improvement projects to ready their property as they launch a new business as bed-and-breakfast proprietors.
Kermani is a proud mother of three. Her oldest daughter is headed to medical school, having graduated from Yale University with a master’s degree in public health (MPH). Her younger daughter is earning her own MPH in Portland, Oregon. Following his sophomore year at Purdue University, Kermani’s son is working in real estate during a gap year to consider career possibilities including medicine.
