Whitley Marshal Swears In New Officer

SOUTH WHITLEY – At Tuesday night's meeting a large crowd joined the South Whitley Town Council at Town Hall to watch Isaac Haupert as he was sworn in and given his badge as the newest officer of the South Whitley Police Department.
Council Vice President Brock Waterson thanked Town Marshal Mikel Vandevender for the department's work addressing a recent threat at Whitko Community Schools.
Ahead of the regular meeting, the council held a budget hearing during which there was no public comment.
A representative from Surf Internet spoke with the Council about connectivity opportunities in the town, including speeds of up to 8 GB.
Park Board President Dave Warner provided an update on teams for the pickleball tournament.
Council discussed oncall hours for police officers and agreed on a temporary $25 per hour pay rate for oncall hours. This rate will be in effect for one month.
Council approved the claims docket of $263,520.43.
The South Whitley Fall Festival begins today and continues through Sunday. The parade will be held Saturday at 2 p.m.
Council will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8.
