Apology To Officers

September 22, 2024 at 4:05 p.m.

Editor, Times-Union:
Dear Officer Swain & Officer Rhodes,
I am writing this letter to offer my sincerest apologies for my actions during the recent encounter with law enforcement. I deeply regret and am ashamed of my decision to resist arrest.
I understand that law enforcement officers have a duty to uphold the law and ensure public safety. My actions not only undermined the authority of the law but also endangered both myself and the officers involved. I recognize that resisting arrest only escalated the situation and made it more difficult for everyone involved.
I want to assure you that my behavior was not a reflection of my true character. In the heat of the moment, I allowed fear and emotions to cloud my judgment, leading to a regrettable outcome. I take full responsibility for my actions and understand that there are consequences for such behavior.
Moving forward, I am committed to making positive changes in my life. I will strive to handle stressful situations with more composure and respect for authority. Additionally, I am open to participating in any necessary counseling or programs to address the underlying issues that contributed to my behavior.
Once again, I apologize for any distress or inconvenience I caused during the incident. I have the utmost respect for law enforcement and am deeply remorseful for my actions. I hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I appreciate your understanding and willingness to consider my apology.
Sincerely,
Joseph McCall
