By Staff Report

ELKHART - The community is invited to gather for the first Speak Our Truth Project: Child Safety & Human Rights Rally on Saturday, Sept. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Elkhart Civic Plaza, 350 S. Main St., Elkhart.
Join Rio’s Rainbow, Parent Coalition for Child Safety & Wellness, Cosecha and Nonviolent Medicaid Army (Put People 1st Indiana) for a collective platform of truth-telling and solidarity, featuring a lineup of speakers and arts and culture performers from across Indiana, according to a provided news release.
“Social problems require a united social movement of people from every background, beyond race, social or political status and religion. Systemic change and accountability demand vulnerability outside of our societal roles and personal agendas. We must put the safety and well-being of our children ahead of our own comfort,” said Rachel Van Alstine, Parent Coalition for Child Safety & Wellness.
“Many of us are among the more than half million Hoosiers who have received cut-off notices from Medicaid since April of last year. When we break out of our isolation and speak our truth, we find that we are powerful together! Come see how movements begin with the telling of untold stories,” said Jason Shenk, Nonviolent Medicaid Army (Put People 1st Indiana).
This family gathering will offer a Speak Your Truth Booth for individuals called to share their own stories, free Family Fun Basket raffle giveaways, music by DJ Certified Grind, dancing, children’s games and chalk art stations, bounce houses, inflatable basketball, and axe throwing by Party Starter Rentals, 33-foot inflatable Fire Safety House by the Elkhart Fire Department, community provider resources, food vendors (Alams Taqueria, Pastries by Steph, Loupa’s Chicken, Panaderia Hernandez, That Guys Gourmet Ribs, and Sweet Treats) and free face painting by Communicating Joy! Spanish translation provided.
As the main event of speakers and arts and culture performers are from 1 to 3 p.m., it is recommended that folks bring lawn chairs for this portion of the event.
