Why Won’t Yakym Debate?

September 17, 2024 at 4:09 p.m.

Editor, Times-Union:
A debate has been scheduled between candidates of Indiana’s 2nd congressional district on October 8, but, as usual, one candidate won’t show up.
Rudy Yakym thinks his gerrymandered seat in Congress means he doesn’t need to work for his constituents. Maybe he’s afraid because he has no accomplishments to talk about. His constituents deserve better.
I’ve canvassed extensively this election season, knocking on hundreds of doors. People are telling me that they’re tired of the extreme MAGA agenda that Yakym is pushing. People are tired of divisive politicians. They want someone who will listen to their needs and take action.
You only have to look at Yakym’s account on X to get a sense of his divisiveness. He spends a significant amount of time amplifying Trump’s extremism and anti-immigrant xenophobia.
I urge you to watch the debate because there is one candidate who will show up. Lori Camp.
Lori Camp has been showing up all summer at events all over Kosciusko County and the entire district. Lori Camp has a passion for serving hard-working Hoosiers, and she’s determined to be our voice in Congress. If you haven’t seen her commercials, please check them out at Camp for Congress on YouTube.
