Joe’s Kids, a non-profit pediatric rehabilitation clinic that provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and tutoring services, announced the addition of a new therapeutic tool, the SpiderCage, which was made possible by a generous donation from Fred and Karen Rowland.
Joe’s Kids was formed in 2014 to address the growing need for therapeutic care in Kosciusko County and surrounding communities, according to a news release from the organization. Joes’ Kids goal is to equip children with diverse abilities to realize their full potential through care, community and connections. At Joe’s Kids, children receive physical, occupational and speech therapy to help them reach their maximum level of independence in the areas of gross motor skills and mobility, fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, feeding and swallowing, and speech and language.
The SpiderCage is a therapeutic tool used to provide external body weight and postural support via a dynamic bungee system which can be tailored by the therapist to benefit each individual child depending on their specific needs. This therapy tool is typically used with children who have difficulty maintaining various positions against gravity without support. The SpiderCage enables children with more profound needs to initiate and experience movement and gross motor skills that they may not be able to achieve on their own. It aides with strengthening, coordination, range of motion and endurance all of which will help children achieve their therapy goals and maximize their independence, the release states.
“Joe’s Kids is so grateful to the Rowlands for this incredible donation,” stated Rebecca Bazzoni, executive director. “The addition of the SpiderCage will have a tremendous impact on our ability to provide therapeutic services and assist some our most vulnerable clients achieve their therapy goals.
