Arleen Tomoko Alejado, 73, Winona Lake, formerly of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital.
Born Aug. 21, 1951, in Honolulu, Hawaii, she is the daughter of Harry and Blanche Nakamura Ikeda.
Growing up in Hawaii, Arleen graduated from James Campbell High School in 1969. On April 11, 1970, Arleen married John Alejado. Arleen was a devoted homemaker raising her three children, Julie, Rae and Michael.
Arleen's love of others and dedication to service and servanthood was evident throughout her life, working at various churches, cooking countless meals for churches as well as various homeless ministries in Hawaii. Arleen, alongside her husband John, served as Awana Missionaries to Hawaii for 27 years. Arleen was also instrumental in the formation and support of the Christian Homeschoolers of Hawaii serving as president for many years. Most recently she was a member of Leesburg Grace Church. She was also a member of Rainbow Grace Brethren Church, Calvary Church of the Pacific, Waipio Grace Brethren Church and Grace Fellowship Church.
Arleen's love of her grandchildren was evident; she enjoyed going to all their musicals and sporting events and was their biggest supporter. She found joy in doing things for others, whether it was cooking or making crafts or helping plan events such as weddings, birthday parties and other social gatherings, Arleen was always willing to help.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John; her daughter, Julie (Chris) King; and son, Michael (DeAnna) Alejado; son-in-law, Perry Kaleohano; sisters, Ann Mickey and Audrey Medley; brothers: Randy and Paul and Jeff Ikeda; grandchildren: Thomas Alejado, Siena David, Kiana Alejado and Dane Kaleohano. Arleen was preceded in death by her daughter Rae Kaleohano and her parents.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at Leesburg Grace Church in Leesburg. The memorial service celebrating her life will follow at 11am with Pastor Tim Sprankle officiating. A memorial service will also be held in Waipahu, Hawaii, on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Grace Fellowship Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 a.m.
