BURKET – Burket Town Council was updated Thursday on the progress of some projects the town has around town.
Council President Bill Rayburn said work on the railroad crossing on Walnut Street was not finished. Street Superintendent Brad Bibler had previously reported he was told by railroad representatives the railroad crossing was going to be done after Mentone’s was worked on, which was done in August. Rayburn said someone from the town will have to see if they can get hold of anyone from the railroad again.
Rayburn also said Bibler shoveled some “black top” into some potholes on CR 700 by Burket Educational Center. The cause of the potholes was determined to be bus traffic, he said.
A speed limit sign on Center Street has not been moved as of Thursday after complaints the sign may not be as visible as it should be. Rayburn said Bibler had marked where he wanted to move the sign to, which is the next median over. However, before the sign could be moved, someone mowed the grass on the median and removed the posts, so Bibler had to remark where he wanted the post.
The sign will be moved and additional speed limit signs will be added, Rayburn said.
Weeds are also still visible along the road edges on East Center Street. Rayburn said he will follow up with Bibler about spraying them.
In August, the council discussed a hornet’s nest on the town garage. Rayburn sprayed the nest and knocked it down and the nest is now gone.
Thursday, the council also approved a local Boy Scout to complete community service work at the town garage and firehouse to obtain his Eagle Scout merit badge. Rayburn said Fire Chief Kevin McSherry said he was fine with the Boy Scout doing work at the fire station.
