Northwest Bank donated $1,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters Thursday.
Dominic Palmitessa, financial center manager at Northwest Bank, said the $1,000 donation is part of the gold-level sponsorship for annual fundraiser on Nov. 12. Tammy Smith, Kosciusko County community development director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana, said the gold-level sponsorship gives Northwest some promotion on the day of the fundraiser and in Big Brothers Big Sisters’ annual reports.
Palmitessa said Northwest Bank sets aside money for sponsorships each year. While this is the first year the bank has donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters, it will be something he plans to continue in the future. Northwest has a history of being involved in sponsorship in the community and the bank is working on reestablishing itself as that presence in this market, he said.
He said he really likes what the organization stands for in regards to creating positive mentorships in the community, especially those at risk. He said he hopes the organization will continue to run efficiently with donations like Northwest’s and others.
Smith said the donation will go to help recruit new volunteers and support the current matches. She said over the last three years, the Big Brothers Big Sisters program has grown. There are currently 70 kids waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister.
