Sherry S. Smalley, 89, of Beaver Dam Lake, passed peacefully on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at her residence.
Sherry was born on Oct. 8, 1935, in Kosciusko County, to the late Kenneth D. and Cecile J. Hartman Parks. She was a 1953 graduate of Atwood High School. She was married on Oct. 7, 1956, in Atwood, to Gerald D. Smalley, who preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 2021.
She was an over 60-year member of Beaver Dam Community Church, where she was active in the Beaver Dam Women, taught Sunday school for children, and in the choir. Sherry worked in the cafeteria at Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 2000. She was best known for her famous yeast rolls at Tippecanoe Valley High School. She enjoyed travel, her and her husband went all over the country together. Sherry’s life was her grandkids and great-grandkids, she took pride in seeing all of her grandchildren’s weddings. Sherry’s life was simple … faith, family and food.
She is survived by her daughters, Tammy Horn and Brant Nellans and Cara and husband Mark Kissell; son, Gary and wife Deb Smalley; grandchildren: Tiffany, Brooke, Dane, Brandi (Shawn), Mila (Braxton), Yarley (Ethan) and Samantha; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Hoffer and Annis Tom; and brother, Kent D. and wife Sandra Parks.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Timothy Horn; and brother-in-law, Keith “Doozy” Hoffer.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at the Beaver Dam Community Church, 9798 W. CR 1000S, Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating. The interment will take place next to her husband in the Nichols Cemetery near Akron. Visitation hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at the Beaver Dam Community Church, Akron.
Donations can be made in her memory to the Beaver Dam Church, the memo to Wheels on Fire to assist the community members who are fighting cancer.
