MENTONE – Jane F. Kantner, 89, of Mentone, passed at 7:44 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at her home.
Jane was born on March 28, 1935, in Walkerton, to the late Gunnard and Julia Anderson Peterson. She graduated from Rolling Prairie High School in 1953 and pursued further education to become a flight attendant for a short time. She married Forrest L. Kantner on Aug. 24, 1963, in Rolling Prairie; he survives.
Jane was a dedicated homemaker and longtime member of the Mentone United Methodist Church, where she actively participated in the Methodist Women and led Bible studies in her earlier years. She assisted her daughter with 4-H, teaching her baking skills. Family vacations, often to educational destinations like the Black Hills, Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Disney and The Ford Museum in Detroit, were some of her cherished moments.
Jane was renowned for her pie and potato salad-making skills. She loved watching sports, especially rooting for the Colts, St. Louis Cardinals and all the Tippecanoe Valley teams. She only missed two of her son's football games throughout his career, even during his time at Ball State University. Jane loved her family and truly enjoyed her life.
She is survived by her husband, Forrest, of Mentone; daughter, Carol Kantner, of Mentone; son, Craig and wife Sara Kantner, of Zionsville; grandchildren: Frances, Jeramy, Cameron, Corey, Kennedy and Karly; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and six brothers.
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Ron Sherck officiating. The interment will take place following the service in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone. Visitation hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
