Two Killed In Head-On Accident, One In Critical Condition

Two people died from injuries suffered from a two-vehicle head-on accident on Old U.S. 30 East, west of Brallier Road in Washington Township, Kosciusko County, Thursday.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency personnel responded at 8:49 p.m. Thursday to a two-vehicle head-on collision on Old U.S. 30 east, west of Brallier Road. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and located a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox involved in the crash, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.

Preliminary investigation determined the Hyundai was driven by Manuel Apolinar Tlahuetl, 24, Warsaw, and the Chevrolet was driven by Heather M. Rice, 54, Columbia City. For reasons yet to be determined, the two vehicles collided head-on on Old U.S. 30, west of Brallier Road.
Tlahuetl was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries suffered in the crash by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.

A passenger in the Equinox, Merle Ray Miller, 54, Ligonier, suffered internal injuries and is listed in critical condition in a Fort Wayne hospital.
Assisting at the scene was the Winona Lake Police Department, Pierceton Fire Department, Tippecanoe Township Fire Department, Lutheran ground and Air EMS, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, Reichert & Knepp Wrecker Service.
The accident remains under investigation by the KSCO FACT team.
