Jean Christiansen Purcell, 105, born July 8, 1919, passed away peacefully in Winona Lake, Indiana, on November 12, 2024, where she received loving care at Grace Village in her later years.
Originally from Chicago, Jean’s journey took her from the bustling city to the quiet town of Milford, Indiana, where she put down roots and built a cherished life with her family and friends.
Jean married Lester Purcell in Chicago on August 13, 1941. Their life together led them to Milford when Da-Lite Screen closed its Chicago plant, making Milford their home. Lester preceded her in death in 1974. They had one son, Randy, who followed a calling to serve as a missionary in Guatemala with his wife, Brenda, a dedication they have carried for over 26 years.
In her younger days, Jean was a musician, skillfully playing both the guitar and banjo, talents that brought joy to her friends and family. Her warm spirit and vibrant personality were felt by all who knew her.
Jean is survived by her son, Randy; her three grandchildren, Nate Purcell (Kim) of Michigan, Leah McKenzie (Dustin) of Tampa, Florida, and Seth Purcell (Joelle) of Oldsmar, Florida; and her great-grandchildren Emery, Liam, Grayson, Oliver, twins Finn and Graham, Elliott, and soon-to-be-born Rory.
The Purcell family is deeply grateful for the love and friendship shown to Jean over the years and for the compassionate care she received at Grace Village. Jean’s legacy of kindness and devotion will live on in the memories of those who loved her.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 3 p.m. at the Eastlund Funeral Home located at 7458 E 1000N, Syracuse. Calling will be one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. Burial will follow at the Leesburg Cemetery.
