Second Mile Adventures donated a trailer to Sleep In Heavenly Peace on Wednesday.
Second Mile Adventures is a Warsaw-based ministry that aims to challenge people physically, mentally and spiritually through activities such as cycling, hiking and other adventure trips.
Nate Gernert, of Second Mile Adventures, said, “The whole idea is to connect people in the community and use the bike as a tool to do that. And then also to share Christ’s love with others. We’ve been blessed with opportunities to partner with other organizations and individuals who are doing awesome things in the area.”
When Second Mile Adventures got a new trailer, Matt Mach asked what they were going to do with the old one. Mach has participated with Second Mile for around 10 years, and he had also been to a “build” at Wildman for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization that builds beds for children in the community who don’t have one. Mach saw the need and connected the two organizations.
“We’re happy to be able to pass along our trailer. We’ve used it for many years, many trips, lots of fun memories. Once we found out they were in need, we were happy to pass it along,” said Second Mile Adventures Board President Kyle Alcorn.
“We build and deliver beds to children aged 3-17,” said Mike Webb, of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. “There are potentially up to 2,000 kids in county that don’t have beds. We have a simple application. They need a bed, we give them a bed.”
Sleep in Heavenly Peace Kosciusko Chapter President Becky Kiphart said, “We have been in the area since April, and we’ve used the community to build 368 beds so far. We’ve delivered over 200. We have used our trailer for many things. Right now, the trailer we have stores all of our equipment. We’re totally mobile … This trailer — I’m so amazed, it’s so nice, I’m just so thankful — it can haul beds when we deliver, it can store things. We needed storage in the northern part of the county because our storage is currently in Silver Lake. So to have another trailer to store things will be invaluable.”
“We’re happy to see (the trailer) get a second life and be able to used for something that’s making a huge impact in the community,” said Gernert.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace representatives say they can always use more volunteers.
