True Colors

Editor, Times-Union:
You did it. You Voted. You won. You chose lies over truth, anger over peace, vengeance over forgiveness, divisiveness over unity and hatred over acceptance. Your indefensible fear of “others” and “them” took control of your better angels, and you decided it would be easier to have a bully authoritarian running your life telling you what to do and what to believe. I get it; that is a whole lot easier than always taking responsibility for yourself and others and taxing your brain to make good decisions. So time consuming ... so exhausting ... And the guy who promises to take those troublesome burdens off your shoulders is such a nice, honest, cuddly, loveable old fart who has only your best interests at heart.
Did you make your voting decisions because you were afraid you would “lose yourself” if you gave in to kindness and logic and the golden rule and maybe listened closely to what the other candidate was promising? Did it sound too good to be true? Were the prices of eggs, and milk and gas just too darned high to tolerate any more — and not coming down fast enough? Well, one must have priorities, mustn’t one?
Well, folks, you got your wish. You have chosen our country’s path to the past for the next four years. You’ve shown your true colors. I will be checking back with you in a few months after that “dictator on day one” fixes all your problems by getting rid of everyone who annoys you and taking you back to a simpler, more barbaric time. Peace out ….
