Incumbents In Contested School Board Races Retain Seats

Both incumbents in the two contested area school board races were elected back into office.
Randy Polston, Warsaw School Board District 4, received 1,957 votes, for 79.49% of the vote. Opponent Emerson Poort received 505 votes, for 20.51% of the vote.

While Polston did not return a phone call seeking comment, on his Facebook he posted, “I want to take a second to thank all of you for your support over the last several months. Thank you for your votes! I am excited to serve our community four more years to impact the lives of our children on our school board. A close friend of mine called me this evening to congratulate me and shared, ‘Randy, you know the children in our community were the winners today with this outcome.’ Wow, that really touched my heart! I am here for all the kids!”
Georgia Tenney, Whitko School Board District 1, received 1,729 combined votes in Whitley and Kosciusko counties, for 51.66% of the vote. Opponent Stephanie Campbell received 1,618 votes combined in Whitley and Kosciusko counties, for 48.34% of the vote.

Tenney said she is thrilled to have another four years on the Whitko School Board and is excited to hire a new superintendent. She also noted it was a close race and Campbell should be proud of herself as Campbell saw there needed to be changes in the school corporation. Tenney said there will be changes made at Whitko. Tenney also thanked everyone for voting.
Also, for Warsaw School Board, Matt Deuel, District 6, received 1,822 votes, for 100% of the vote. Mallika Klingaman, District 3, received 1,499 votes, for 100% of the vote. They were uncontested.
No candidate filed for Whitko School Board District 2.
Micah R. Cokl, Whitko School Board District 3, received 2,614 combined votes from Whitley and Kosciusko counties.
Triton School Board District 3 member Weston Rittinger received 1,804 combined votes from both Marshall and Kosciusko counties.
Kevin Boyer, Triton School Board at-large, received 1,876 combined votes in Marshall and Kosciusko counties.
Michael Fowler, Wawasee School Board District 1, received 6,018 votes. Donald Bokhart, Wawasee School Board District 2, received 5,601 votes.
No candidate filed for Wawasee School Board District 3.
For Tippecanoe Valley School Board, Aaron Zolman, District 1, received 2,432 votes in Kosciusko and Fulton counties combined. Adam Heckaman, District 2, received 2,410 votes in Kosciusko and Fulton counties combined.
For the Wa-Nee School Board, Don Lehman, Scott and Jefferson townships, received 430 votes. John Payne, Olive Township, received 400 votes. Results in Elkhart County for Wa-Nee were not available by press time Tuesday.
Voters were able to vote for two people for the Wa-Nee School Board at-large positions. For Kosciusko County, Christina Eshelman received 204 votes, for 26.49%; Shawn C. Johnson received 228 votes, or 29.61%; and David R. Kauffman received 338 votes, or 43.90%.

Kathleen N. Anderson-Takacs, 84, of Pierceton, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. Kathy was born on Aug. 14, 1940, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Darwin and Jane Gibson. On April 17, 2004, she married Bill Takacs in Gatlinburg, Tenn., who survives.
