North Webster Man Killed In 3-Vehicle Crash

ELKHART COUNTY - A 20-year-old North Webster man is dead after a three-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Elkhart County.
The man’s identity was not released Wednesday night pending family notification, according to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:16 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of CR 17 and Ind. 119.
The North Webster man was traveling northeast on a 2012 Yamaha FZ6 on Ind. 119 at the intersection with CR 17.
A 2013 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Brenda Gonzalez Gutierrez, 31, Elkhart, was traveling north on CR 17 at the intersection.
The third vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Avenger, driven by Mariana Avelino, 28, Elkhart, was traveling south on CR 17 at the intersection.
The news release states the motorcycle disregarded a red light at the intersection and the front end of the Traverse hit the right side of the motorcycle. The North Webster man was thrown from the motorcycle.
The Yamaha slid through the intersection and hit the front end of the Dodge Avenger.
The North Webster man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet, the release states.
Gutierrez, who complained of pain, was taken to Goshen General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The Traverse sustained front-end damage.
Avelino, who also was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured, the release states. There were three passengers in the Dodge Avenger, which sustained front-end damage.
The investigation is ongoing.
