Lake ‘Sonny’ Dewayne Carpenter

BOURBON – Lake “Sonny” Dewayne Carpenter, of Bourbon, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice of Fort Wayne.
Sonny was born to Roy W. and Florence Large Carpenter on January 30, 1939, in Sublett, Ky. He graduated from Tippecanoe High School in 1958. He married Elizabeth Faye Lozier on Aug. 30, 1958, and they were together just shy of 65 years before her passing. He served in the United States Army from 1959 – 1962. He was a pressman operator for R.R. Donnelley and Sons for nearly 40 years, which took him to his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the American Legion in Bourbon and the Warsaw Moose Lodge #1423. He enjoyed racing, golf, fishing and gardening over the years. But mostly loved following any sport his kids and grandkids played. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Sonny is survived by his children: David E. (Penny) Carpenter, of Bourbon, along with their son, TJ; Jack L. Carpenter (Amanda Hayes), of Winona Lake, along with his sons, Griffyn and Quentyn; Dawn L. (Jerry) Bethel, of Indianapolis; Regina F. (Chris), Dance, of Richmond, along with her children: Blake, Coy, Braedyn and Jordan; his great-granddaughter, Jillian Carpenter; his great-grandson, Banks Carpenter; his brother, Don Carpenter, of Claypool; his half sisters: Peggy Bause, of Warsaw; Merle (Dale) Kreh, of Mattawan, Mich.; and Judy Cole, of Bourbon.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Florence Carpenter; his loving wife, Elizabeth Carpenter; his sister, Charlene Duncan; and his daughter-in-law, Jill Carpenter.
Visitation service will be held Thursday, May 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 17 at 10 a.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon. Burial will take place at Etna Green Cemetery, Etna Green.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jill Carpenter Memorial Scholarship Fund through Marshall County Community Foundation, 2680 Miller Drive, Suite 120, P.O. Box 716, Plymouth, IN 46563. Sympathy cards may be sent to 101 West Clay, Bourbon, IN 46504.
