AKRON – Judith A. Pontius, 73, of Laketon, went home to be with the Lord at 10:36 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center of Fort Wayne.
Judith entered this world on March 2, 1951, in Savannah, Ga., to Frank and Ethel Cody Maple. She married Russell M. Pontius in Warsaw, on Oct. 10, 1987. Russell remains to honor her memory.
Throughout her career, Judith dedicated her skills to Zimmer Orthopedics and Biomet of Warsaw, serving as an inspector. Her passions were attending Bluegrass Festivals and gliding across dance floors with her husband. Judith captured the essence of nature’s beauty in her paintings, depicting mountains, tranquil waters and trees. Her spirit of service shone through as she had taught Sunday school at Sweetwater Assembly of God. Judith’s life was further enriched by the companionship of her adored Yorkie dogs. She found joy in sipping Diet Coke and savoring McDonald’s coffee. She was a Notre Dame football and Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. Above all, Judith was the cornerstone of her family, showering her grandchildren with love and leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
She is survived by her husband, Russell; children: Frank and wife Dianne Reiter, of Warsaw; Shane and wife Michelle Reiter, of Pierceton; and Shane Pontius and fiancée Tara Skelton, of Milford; Shirley Pontius, of Roann; Cindy Weaver Norris, of Hartford City; Paul Pontius, of Montana; and David and wife Delrea Pontius, of Fort Wayne; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, James and wife Gwenn Reeves, of Hobart.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Don, Norman, Bob and Hollis; and sister, Bonnie.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Chris Stull officiating. The interment will take place in the Akron Cemetery, Akron. Visitation hours will be held at 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
Memorial can be made in her memory to the local animal shelter of the donor’s choosing.
