SIDNEY — Sidney’s head of maintenance has resigned.
At the Sidney Town Council meeting Monday, Council President Gavin Parrett reported Sidney Maintenance Department Manager Chris Bradford resigned. Parrett also reported that Joe Calhoun had expressed interest in the position.
Councilwoman Sharon Rancourt, who was not present due to personal business, previously told Parrett she would vote to approve Calhoun taking the job, contingent on proof of insurance. The council voted to approve Calhoun as the new maintenance department manager, contingent on proof of insurance.
The council also announced that demolition at 105 N. Indiana St. had begun. Parrett reported that they were waiting on Duke Energy to cut off power to the property for safety, before further work can continue. The plan for the lot is to turn it into a park.
In other business, the council:
• Announced that the contract with the Pierceton Police Department had been signed and that sporadic coverage has started.
• Discussed potentially considering installing new light poles in the next fiscal year.
• Announced that the John Deere ride on lawnmower and sprayer were sold at auction; the mower for $850 and the sprayer for $250. The funds had not been received yet and could take a few months to be processed.
• Heard citizen concerns regarding a large hole behind a resident’s house that was potentially a safety hazard and pot holes between Jackson and Monroe streets.
The next council meeting will be 6:30 p.m. June 10 at the Jackson Township Fire Station.
