On Wednesday, the community was invited to a "Meet the Candidate" event hosted by Nathan Scherer, candidate for northern district Kosciusko County commissioner.
The event, held at the Kosciusko County 4H Fairgrounds, was designed to foster open communication and gather insights into the concerns and aspirations of the public, according to a provided news release.
"We wanted to have an event that was open to the public so we could talk with the people and understand what their concerns are for the county," said Scherer.
The event drew “an inquisitive crowd, eager to enjoy great BBQ and participate in productive conversations about local issues,” according to the release. Attendees had the opportunity to interact directly with Scherer, discussing a range of topics affecting the county and sharing their perspectives.
In addition to promoting civic engagement, the event also served a philanthropic purpose. Through contributions from attendees and supporters, the event raised over $1,000 for local youth agriculture programs.
"This was a win-win event; anytime you can engage with the public and help a local nonprofit is a good day," said Scherer, highlighting the outcomes of bringing people together for conversations and supporting community initiatives.
