A Warsaw man died several days after being injured in a two-vehicle accident.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office accident report, at 8:49 a.m. April 24 a KCSO deputy responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 30 and CR 325E.
Preliminary investigation concluded a 2010 Toyota RAV4, driven by Marion Aleman, 93, East Ken Way Drive, Warsaw, failed to yield the right-of-way to a westbound 2014 Toyota Highlander, driven by Richard Vonesh, 79, Fort Wayne. Vonesh attempted to change lanes to prevent a collision, but Aleman’s vehicle continued into oncoming traffic and hit Vonesh’s vehicle on the passenger side door.
One witness said she was driving westbound on U.S. behind Vonesh. The witness saw Vonesh with their turn signal on and attempting to turn southbound on CR 325E. The witness said Aleman’s vehicle was going south on CR 325 and believes she saw Aleman’s vehicle stop at a stop sign, but wasn’t completely sure. The witness said Aleman’s vehicle was driving at a low rate of speed. Just prior to crossing U.S. 30, Vonesh’s vehicle pulled back onto the roadway and collided with Aleman’s vehicle.
A second witness said she was driving southbound on CR 325 behind Aleman’s vehicle. The second witness said Aleman’s vehicle did stop at the stop sign. The second witness said Aleman was driving at a low rate of speed and was unable to enter the median prior to hitting Vonesh’s vehicle.
Marion Aleman and a passenger in his vehicle Mary J. Aleman, 84, East Kenway Drive, Warsaw, as well as Richard Vonesh and a passenger in his vehicle, Naomi L. Vonesh, 78, Fort Wayne, were transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Vonesh had a contusion to the chest. Naomi Vonesh had an abrasion to the hip/upper leg. Mary Aleman had a fracture/dislocation to the knee/lower leg/foot.
Marion Aleman died Sunday.
