Governor Candidate Forum Will Feature Four Candidates
March 22, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
Four Republican candidates for Indiana governor will take part in Monday’s candidate forum hosted by the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber and the Public Policy Committee invited the top four candidates according to their straw poll and the three that committed were Brad Chambers, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and Eric Doden, stated Chamber President and CEO Rob Parker. “Unfortunately, (Sen.) Mike Braun’s schedule did not allow him to attend.”
With Braun unable to attend, former Indiana attorney general Curtis Hill was invited and he agreed to participate.
Parker said they really wanted to ask the candidates some in-depth questions, and having more than four candidates on the stage would have meant questions would have to be watered down and there would not be as many.
“You’d have to have a shorter time, or less questions,” Parker said. “There’s some really in-depth questions we wanted to ask of our candidates, so the decision was made that the top four candidates would be the ones that we would invite.”
The forum will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 25 at the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center, 1 Tiger Lane, Warsaw. It is free and open to the public. It will not be aired on the radio or livestreamed. It will be recorded and made available online via the Chamber.
The forum is Republican candidates only because Libertarian Donald Rainwater, Independent Christopher Stried and Democrat Jennifer McCormick are unopposed in the primary election on May 7.
“The way we do all of our forums is, at the primary, if there is a contested race - Republican or Democrat - we would host those candidates, for any position in the county. Mostly we focus on the county, but in this case, because it is such a big deal and there are so many running for the Republican nomination, we thought it was best to ask them to attend,” Parker explained.
The forum will feature questions asked by representatives of News Now Warsaw, The Times-Union and InkFreeNews.
A candidate forum for the contested county races is being planned for April 24-25. Those races are for Kosciusko County Circuit Court judge, surveyor, coroner and the northern district county commissioner.
