Douglas ‘Doug’ J. Payne

March 19, 2024 at 5:51 p.m.

Douglas “Doug” J. Payne, of Packerton Road in Claypool, took the hand of the Lord and went home at 1:17 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the age of 89. He was surrounded by his loving family when he crossed into Heaven!
He was born on December 14, 1934, in Avondale, West Virginia, to Booker and Beulah (Chadwick) Payne. Doug was raised by his loving grandparents, whom he lovingly called “Dad” and “Mommy,” Lew Elen and Sally Chadwick.
On July 11, 1980, he married Katheryn L. Stroud. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage together before Doug passed away. They shared the ups and downs of life, and through everything they always had their faith. They enjoyed worshiping together with their church family at Water for Life Church in Silver Lake.
Doug was a hard-working and reliable man his entire life. He served in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1962. He worked for a number of years at OEC Medical Systems in Warsaw for many years, retiring in 2002. Throughout his life he always loved to spend a good day hunting and fishing whenever he was able to. Doug loved the outdoors and being surrounded by God’s beauty. He was wonderful with his hands and detail work in his woodworking projects. Most of all, he dearly loved his family and will forever be remembered as a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend to many. A good man has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior but will forever be missed by those he left behind.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Katheryn L. Payne, Claypool; two brothers, Rocky (Dawn) Addair Sr., Liberty Mills; Ronald (Phyllis) Hurley, Warsaw; and two sisters, Claudia (Steve) Brown, Virginia; and Rhonda Addair, Leesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Elsie Douglas Payne; and two brothers, Donald Chadwick and his infant brother, Charles.
Doug’s life will be celebrated with a service at noon on Wednesday, March 20 at Water Of Life Church, 401 E. Main St., Silver Lake, and officiated by Pastor JR Arnett and Pastor Paul Copeland. He will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery of Pierceton. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
Online condolences may be sent through the funeral home’s website at www.redpathfruthfuneralhome.com.
