Leesburg Council OKs Ordinance Changes For Fines
March 11, 2024 at 8:55 p.m.
LEESBURG — A public hearing on ordinance changes relating to fines was held at the Leesburg Town Council meeting Monday.
There were no questions asked or comments made during the public hearing.
In November, the council made the decision that there should be one “blanket” policy for all ordinance violations, with fines set at $25 for the first offense, $100 for the second offense and $200 for the third offense.
Town attorney Nick Jacobs has been working on amending the wording in ordinances regarding violation penalties and brought the amended documents to Monday’s meeting.
The council officially approved the ordinance changes.
In another matter, the council approved the purchased of an automated traffic control device to monitor and display the speed of traffic. The device will be portable and will come with mounting hardware so that it can be moved between locations.
Council members have been reviewing traffic control devices, narrowing the choice down to two — one with a base cost of about $3,000 and the other with a price tag of about $3,300.
There was some discussion as to whether to purchase one device now and possibly another device or two at a later time — or to hold off on purchasing any devices at this time.
Council Vice President Christina Archer made the motion to purchase one speed monitor device with blinking speed display, using previously approved additional appropriation funds. The council approved the motion.
In other news:
• Reminders: no parking on any street between 3 and 5 a.m. every day; no burning anything, any time; be mindful of what you flush; street department cell number is 574-527-2884.
•Derek Tenney of Tenney & Sons provided a monthly sanitary sewer report.
The next regular meeting will be 6:30 p.m. April 8.
