With a big smile on his face, generous handshakes and sometimes a hug, Bomy Singh, owner of Bomy’s Authentic Indian Food and Groceries, welcomed guests to an anniversary luncheon Monday.
He was celebrating the third - going on fourth - year of his Indian restaurant and grocery store at 1403 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, with the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce.
“We changed the menu many times already. It was a huge menu, now we have a small, selected menu,” he stated.
The smaller menu was selected by his customers and what they would purchase most often. He said his menu was about four times smaller than it had been in the past.
“But still it’s a lot, you know? We still have 50 items, and it used to be hundreds of them, and I cut it day by day. What I was selling good, we’re keeping that,” Singh said.
The little grocery store in the back sells Indian food and supplies. He said people now don’t have to drive 50 miles out to pick up the items they need.
Singh also has a free food pantry outside of his business for needy people as a way for him to give back.
“That’s 24/7 open,” he said. It’s filled every week with groceries that people in need can pick up.
“It’s big used! Big time!” he said. Some people donate to the food pantry, too, but many people appreciate that he offers that.
Bomy’s Authentic Indian Food and Groceries is closed Sundays and Mondays, and open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
He said his busiest day varies from week to week.
“It’s nothing fixed,” he said. Sometimes Saturday may be their busiest day, other weeks it may be Tuesday. “Busy, it just depends. It’s not a fixed day.”
Singh said they have a menu for everyone.
“We sell meat, chicken, vegetarian, vegan and the snacks and appetizers. They are all kinds of that, too, like vegetarian and vegan. We have food for everyone here, especially for the vegan - a lot of people turning vegan now. We are ready for them,” he said.
