SIDNEY — Sidney Town Council has a new member.
At its Monday meeting, the council announced that Brandon Allen had resigned. Rebecca Adams was appointed by Kosciusko County Democrat Chairwoman Vicki Morton.
“I want to help my town out,” Adams said. “I actually ran in the last election, I was the odd man out. I want to help my town, help make it better.”
During the meeting, the council heard a report from Sewer Department Head Tim Woodward.
Woodward reported that the sewer plant had gone three years without any permit violations.
“Three years without a permit violation is pretty good,” said Woodward.
Sidney Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Parrett gave an update on setting up Sidney to use Tax Refund and Exchange Compliance, or TRECS.
“Anyone who owes the town money, I can enter in this system, and it will be taken out of their income tax returns,” said Parrett.
Parrett explained that the requests allows people 45 days after a notification to pay. If people don’t file an income tax, properties can still be leaned.
In other business, the council:
• Learned that a truck in violation of the city’s junk car ordinance will be moved in the next couple of days.
• Announced that discussions are ongoing with the city of Pierceton’s lawyer regarding the sporadic police coverage contract.
• Gave an update on the John Deere tractor and sprayer to be sold at auction and that there is an interested buyer.
• Heard citizen comments regarding concerns over new apartments being built and how sewer bills would be handled.
Sidney Town Council’s next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. April 8 at the Jackson Township Fire Station.
