NORTH WEBSTER – The North Webster Community Center (NWCC) announced the appointment of four new board members, including Sue Fiedeke with Amazing Carpet Care and Scrub-A-Dub; Deanna Cooper, a longtime Community Center volunteer; Mark Richards with ProWake Motorsports and ProWake Surf Shop; plus Amanda Meerzo of Mohawk Pier, The River and Skoops Ice Cream.
“Our board of directors is comprised of a dedicated team of members committed to ensuring the North Webster Community Center is pursuing our mission statement to ‘engage our community through meaningful opportunities to gather and connect,’” said NWCC Executive Director Emily Shipley. “We are excited to channel Sue, Mark, Deanna and Amanda’s talent, expertise and energy into furthering our mission.”
Along with the addition of new board members, the NWCC is hosting several upcoming March events, including Casino Night on the 9th, the 17th Annual Kids Business Fair on the 16th, Hoosiers Hysteria Family Movie Night on the 22nd and a Planetarium Expo on the 30th based on the upcoming April 8 eclipse.
The NWCC, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt corporation, was established in 2002 to restore and preserve the former North Webster elementary school into something special for the community, said Shipley, adding that the NWCC’s board initially raised $1.4 million to renovate the building, which is currently being utilized by the entire surrounding community.
Today, it’s become home to a number of local groups and businesses such as the Kosciusko Community YMCA, Senior Primelife Enrichment Center (SPEC), The Watershed Foundation Inc. and NWCC Massage Therapy.
In addition to these year-round tenants, the NWCC hosts a variety of events from weddings to fundraising events to the Mermaid Festival pageants, election polls, health screenings, class reunions, birthday parties and countless Boy Scout, Girl Scout, lake association, town council, service clubs and support group meetings.
