Milford Man Killed In 2-Vehicle Crash; Multiple Others Injured

A Milford man was killed and nine others, including children, were injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening.
The fatal accident occurred on CR 150W, approximately 1,500 feet south of CR 400N, in Plain Township, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.
KCSO deputies and emergency personnel responded Saturday at 5:35 p.m. to the two-vehicle accident on CR 150W. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and located a 2024 Tesla, driven by Anish Daita, 31, Warsaw, and a 2007 Chevrolet driven by Joseph Criswell, 44, Milford, involved in the crash.
Preliminary crash investigation determined that Daita was northbound on CR 150W and was left of center and hit the vehicle driven by Criswell, whose vehicle was southbound on CR 150W, the release states. The crash was a head-on collision.
Daita suffered internal injuries and was transported to Lutheran Fort Wayne. Two other adult passengers in the Tesla were treated and released at the scene, suffering from minor lacerations and bruising.
Criswell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office from injuries suffered in the crash. Six juvenile passengers in that vehicle were treated for varying injuries: two female juveniles were flown to Fort Wayne Lutheran for treatment of their injuries, one juvenile female was ground transported to Lutheran, one female was treated at the scene for her injuries and two male juveniles were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
According to KCSO Public Information Officer Sgt. Doug Light, Daita is being investigated for driving under the influence but could not be taken into custody due to his injuries. He had internal injuries and had to be transferred to Fort Wayne Lutheran. Charging information will be sent to the prosecutor’s office.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Warsaw Police Department, Leesburg Fire Department, Lutheran ground and air ambulance, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, North Webster EMS, and Crouse Wrecker Service.
The crash remains under investigation by the KCSO FACT.
