SILVER LAKE – At Wednesday night's meeting, following a public hearing, the Silver Lake Town Council approved increasing water and sewer rates.
Tyler Coffel, of Baker Tilly Consultants, presented the rate schedule for each utility.
The sewer rate will increase by 50% over the course of three years and the water rate will increase by 25% over the course of two years. The current minimum for sewer is $35 but will reach $52 by 2027. The current minimum for water is $52.57 but will reach $66 by 2026.
Residents will first see a 20% increase in sewer and a 12% increase in water on this year's bills, beginning in September.
Mitch Hansel, of USI Consultants, asked the council to sign a contract with Phend & Brown to begin sidewalk and asphalt work on Sycamore Street with $275,759.47 in Community Crossings Matching Grant funding.
In citizens' comments, David Labitzke asked the council what can be done about drainage on Neher Road, citing constant puddling and pooling in his yard. The street department will try jetting the tile between Labitzke's and the neighboring property.
In other business:
• Council approved purchasing additional computer storage for the police department for $2,910.
• Fire Chief John Conley reported eight runs since last month: two fire assists, one fire, two miscellaneous calls, two traffic accidents and one medical assist.
• There was a town docket of $212,532.33.
There will be a public hearing at 5 p.m. June 24 at Town Hall regarding the demolition of the property at 1008 N. Roosevelt St.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. July 10.
