AKRON – Raymond Adams, 89, of Akron, a beloved figure known for his sharp wit and generous spirit, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 3, 2024, at the Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.
Born on Jan. 1, 1935, in Akron, Raymond was the son of Jackson and Pauline Personette Adams. His early life saw him graduate from Beaver Dam High School in the class of '53. Love found Raymond when he married Marilyn R. Haney on Oct. 29, 1955, in a ceremony at her family’s home near Akron. Their union was one of love and partnership until Marilyn’s passing in 2015. He mourned her passing every day.
Raymond’s professional life was marked by a 40-year tenure with NIPSCO in construction. Beyond his work, he was passionate about his farm, where he raised livestock and cultivated the land. His commitment to faith was evident through his active involvement in the Beaver Dam Community Church. A die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs, Raymond’s loyalty to his team was as steadfast as his commitment to his community. He attended numerous Tippecanoe Valley sporting events over the years. Raymond and his late wife, Marilyn, embarked on countless trips to Arizona for Cubs spring training, as well as many other memorable trips.
His departure leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness and a community enriched by his presence. Raymond will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth Ann Adams, Mentone; sons, Phil and wife Shirley Adams, Warsaw; and Kent and wife Lisa Adams, Akron; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim and wife Margaret Adams, of Akron.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Marilyn; brother, Jack Adams Jr.; and a sister, Bonnie Summe.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating. The interment will take place in the Akron Cemetery, Akron, following the service. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 7 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Beaver Dam Community Church or to Wheels on Fire to assist the community members who are fighting cancer.
