MENTONE – Debra Ann Coplen Hiers, 69, of Mentone, passed at 3:15 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, at AMG Specialty Hospital of Muncie.
Deb was born on Nov. 11, 1954, in Rochester, to the late Jesse M. “Tubby” and Georgia J. Nicodemus Coplen. She graduated from Mentone High School in 1973 and later earned an associate degree in accounting from Ivy Tech in Warsaw. On March 17, 1995, she married Eric J. Hiers in Mentone; he survives her.
Deb dedicated 25 years as a bookkeeper at Bell Memorial Public Library, retiring in 2021. She was an avid reader and cherished dining out, watching movies and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed solving puzzles and had a passion for all kinds of flowers. Deb and Eric embarked on many adventures across Indiana on their Harley Davidson motorcycle. In 2002, she bought a new Mustang convertible, which she loved driving.
She is survived by her husband, Eric Hiers, of Mentone; children, Katrina and husband Derek Manwaring, of Howard City, Mich.; and Carey and husband Jay Slone, of Mentone; grandchildren: Tristyn Lewis, Drake Manwaring, Kaitlyn Lewis, Kennedy Slone and Kyla Davis; sister, Brenda Lotz, of Mentone; brother, Ronnie Coplen, of Rochester; and beloved dog, Pippen. Deb was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Doug Lotz; and mother-in-law, Frances Hiers.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23 at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. The interment will follow in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone. Visitation hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23 at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
